We're fighting hunger together!

Durham Farmers' Market

Durham Fasrmers’ Market is helping to end hunger one step at a time by participating in this year’s CROP Hunger Walk.

Each year, 25% of the money raised by the Durham CROP Hunger Walk gets distributed between 12 local hunger fighting agencies, including the Durham Farmers’ Market Double Bucks program. The rest of the donations goes to the Church World Service to fight hunger world-wide.

At the Durham Farmers’ Market, we are committed to increasing access to fresh, local food to all families and individuals in our community. With the help of our generous partners, including the Durham CROP Hunger Walk, we match SNAP/EBT transactions dollar for dollar up to $10. This means that if a SNAP customer spends $10, they will receive $20 worth of tokens to spend on fresh produce at the market. We also match WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers dollar for dollar.
In 2018, we were excited to expand our Double Bucks program by launching Cash Match. We now match up to $10 in cash for SNAP recipients who are out of benefits for the month, WIC recipients, and community members who live in Section 8 housing or a housing authority site.

From May to September, 2018, $13,190 was spent in Double Bucks at the Durham Farmers’ Market. That is a 29% increase compared to the $9,319 spent from May to September in 2017. In 2019, our goal is to eliminate the $10 matching gap and offer dollar-for-dollar matching to all food program participants.

Please support the Durham Farmers’ Market team by making a donation... and join our vendors, staff, and volunteers on the 45th annual Durham CROP Hunger Walk! We cannot wait to walk alongside you!
