The Walk symbolizes the walk many people around the world must make for basic resources such as food, water and firewood. In a world where there is enough food for all, we are moved to action by the fact that one out of every nine people goes to bed hungry each night. We choose to walk so others don't have to.
75% of the funds collected go to help the global development work of Church World Service*. The funds raised support food programs in emergency response, as well as longer-term solutions like enhancing food security and providing sustainable safe water supplies.
25% of the funds collected stay in the Kent community to bolster the local hunger-fighting efforts of two organizations: Kent Community Supper, wheich offers a free meal for anyone who comes to Kent Lutheran Church each Monday night, and HOME, a program which offers a place to sleep each night and three meals each day to homeless men.
*Undesignated online donations will default to the Walk's parent organization, CWS. If you would like to designate specifically to a sister agency, be sure to specify under the "Alternate Agency" option that appears on the payment method screen.
Rally Day - Our Rally Day for Walk team leaders will be held on Sunday August 18 at 1:00 pm at Kent United Methodist Church, 11010 SE 248th St., Kent, WA 98030. Lunch will be served. The Walk materials for your team will be available for you to pick up. Please plan to join us on that day.
Route Information - The Kent Walk is a 5 1/2 mile walk through downtown Kent and along the Green River and Interurban trails, ending back at Kent Lutheran Church. There are shortcuts along the route, two refreshment stops and a restroom available. Maps are provided at Kent Lutheran Church where we gather before the walk. Be sure to come back to Kent Lutheran for hotdogs at the end of your walk.
Together, we can help end hunger in our community and around the world!
