What a beautiful day we had to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of CROP Hunger Walk! Fifty years ago on October 13 the communities of Bismarck, North Dakota and York, Pennsylvania, started this CROP movement with a single goal: a world where no one must go hungry. Today, we walk to raise funds to end hunger here in the Greater Youngstown Area and around the world.

This year we were able to raise a preliminary amount of $10,883.31. Monies are still being collected and team pages are up and running for the next month so donations can still be made. We will let you know the final amount as soon as that figure is available.

Church World Service (CWS) will receive 75 percent of the final amount, which will help to provide food and water, as well as resources that empower people to meet their own needs. From seeds and tools to wells and water systems, the key as far as CWS is concerned is to have people work together to identify their own development priorities, their strengths and their needs.

This year’s local-community grant recipient, Protestant Family Service of the Greater Youngstown Area, will receive 25 percent of the final amount for its’ hunger-fighting programs.

A big thank you to every one involved and we look forward to seeing you as well as seeing many more participants in next year’s Walk.
